Heat: Pedal to the Metal is a new take on the old genre of racing games, depicting formula 1 racing in the early 1960s. Here, your car’s performance—and wear—is represented by a deck of cards, which is supplemented by three “option” cards drafted before the race. Managing your car’s Heat is a core part of the game – using your available heat to advance, and then dealing with the consequences.
There is also a catch-up mechanism (“adrenaline”), as well as highly important slip-streaming of other cars, such that the results are often not set in stone until the last corner is cleared.

Event Description
The rules for this event in 2025 are still being updated.
Game Versions
In all Heats, Semifinal, and Final, we will play with the garage and weather/road conditions modules. During the heats, players will have the option to self-select into a base game only table if there are sufficient players choosing that option.
We will use the snake-draft variant for drafting garage upgrades. All expansion garage upgrades are allowed (if available) unless the table agrees to remove one or more expansion. All tables will select a random map, however the Italy, Mexico, and Spain maps will not be used during the heats.
Number of Players
Most games will be played with 4 players, resorting to 3- or 5-player games only if needed. Legends will be used to bring the number of cars on track to 5. Players will be randomly assigned a turn order and seating order at the start of each game.
HEATS
There will be three preliminary heats, followed by the semi-final and final.
Elimination Rounds
Assuming at least 32 participants, a 16 player semi-final will be held, consisting of four 4-player games. Players will be ranked according to number of wins, followed by their second best finish. In the event that not enough winners are available to play in the semi-final, second-place players will advance to fill the tables only up to the next multiple of four. In the unlikely event that six or fewer winners return for the semifinal, those players will proceed directly to a final game.
Depending on the number of semifinal games, the final will have between 4 and 6 players. If fewer than four semifinal games take place, the top two from each semifinal will advance to the final.
Tie Breakers
If two or more cars finish in the same round, the winner is the player whose car is furthest ahead (the spot closest to the Race Line is the tiebreaker if two cars end up side by side).
Players should break ties for all positions.
