Event Description for 2026
Qualifying heats
Players can compete in one or both of two qualifying heats. Each heat will consist of two player games, played with the base Carcassonne set. Players will be randomly assigned to tables and the Starting player should also be chosen randomly.
In the second heat, players will be assigned to play a different player. Consult the GM if you find yourself seated with the same player you played in Heat 1.
Players should turn in their score sheets in quickly at the end of each game so the GM can determine who will advance to the elimination rounds.
Elimination rounds
After the qualifying rounds are complete, the GM will determine which players will advance to the Elimination rounds. Only winners will advance and the maximum numbers of players advancing will be 16 people. If there are less than 16 winners, there will be byes given to the top seeded players. If there are more than 16 winners, we will take the top 16 players based on the formula below.
The winners of the two semi-final games will advance to the final. Losers of the semi-final games will play head to head to determine 3rd & 4th place.
- All heats and elimination round games will be played with the standard Carcassonne base game using the current 3rd Edition rules and Supplemental rules as described on the Z-man Games website. The Basic Game will include all 72 original tiles (not including The River) as listed in the 3rdEdition rules. Copies of the tile list will be made available.
- The starting player will use the start tile instead of drawing from the bag. They may play a meeple in any legal location on that tile. This allows both players to have access to the same number of tiles during the game.
- If an unplayable tile is drawn, place it aside. The player should then draw a new tile from the bag. The unplayable tile is returned to the bag at the beginning of that player’s next turn.
Tie Breakers for individual games
1. Most unused meeples before final scoring starts.
2. Least number of farmers on the board
3. Coin flip
