Event Description for 2026
SETI Board Game Championship. Embark on a scientific race to make humankind’s greatest discovery in our first annual SETI: Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence tournament! Lead your scientific institute across four competitive rounds. Deploy real-world space technology, launch probes across our rotating solar system, tune radio telescopes, and process deep-space data to discover evidence of alien life.
SETUP
All games will be played with the Space Agencies expansion (if available) and no promos. Games in the two Heats will be 3-player with any surplus players making one or two 2-player games. Standard point EQ awards for finishes, with 1st place in a 3-player game being more points than 1st place in a 2-player game. The semi-final will be the top 12 players for 4 3-player games. The final will be a 4-player game. Rules and setup will be the same in all rounds. Not all winners will necessarily advance
PRELIMINARY ROUNDS
Two 3 1/2 hour heats will be played. Preference will be for 3-player games but we will use 2-player games as necessary. No modifications to the rules

ELIMINATION ROUNDS
If there are at least 32 total players:
The Top 12 players advance to the semi-finals, as determined by the standard Euro Quest tiebreakers. These players will play four 3-player games, the winner of each advancing to the finals.
If there are less than 32 total players:
With 4 or fewer unique winners, we will skip directly to a final with those winners. If necessary, the next top ranked player(s) without a win will advance to fill the table to 4.
With more than 4 unique winners, we will advance either 6 or 9 (depending on the number of unique winners) to a semi-final. The next top ranked players without a win may be included to fill out the tables. Advancement of non-winners in the semifinal will be determined by placement in the semifinal game and then highest percentage of the semifinal winner’s score. The top 4 players from the semi-final will advance to the final table.
TIEBREAKERS
The following tie breakers will be used in all rounds.
